To first come back to last April. In that month, 23,846 new cars were registered. And that is 55.6 percent more than in the same period a year earlier (15,322). April is the first month in 2021 to show an increase. However, compared to April 2019 – when 32,701 cars were registered – the market is 27.1 percent behind.
In April, Kia was the market leader with 2,680 vehicles. The Korean brand is closely followed by Volkswagen (2093), Peugeot (1766), Toyota (1686) and Skoda (1435). Kia also scored with the models. The Kia Niro (888 units) and Picanto (837) top the list. The rest of the top five consists of the Volvo XC40 (816), Toyota Yaris (534) and Peugeot 208 (506).
If we look at the first three months of 2021, a total of 104,497 new cars have been registered. That is 11.7 percent less than in the same period in 2020 (118,375). But what struck us in the list is that there are several cars that were registered 0 times, but that are still available. Which are they?
A shadowy man in a raincoat – well, just an Aston Martin salesman really – whispered to us that the Aston Martin Vantage and DB11 aren’t selling well. The expensive Aston Martin DBS is really much more popular.
Compact sports cars like the Audi TT peak early – after their introduction they are equally popular – but after that the interest of the buying public quickly drops to zero. And that can be seen here …
The Ford Mustang is still available. Strangely enough no longer as a four-cylinder, but only as a V8. And that explains its bizarre price. Just under 100,000 euros for a Ford. No wonder the counter has remained at 0.
We have tested the Hyundai Nexo and think it is just a very nice car. But yes, the biggest flaw of the fuel cell SUV remains the lousy hydrogen network. You can only refuel in five places in the Netherlands.
Is the Lexus BMW 4-series competitor still available, we immediately wondered. And guess what: yes, it still is. As far as we can see only as 464 hp strong Lexus RC F. But no one had 145,000 euros for that.
The legendary ‘four-door’ cannot compete with the German competition. Only 0 people paid 190,000 euros for the large sports sedan. For comparison: 77 people bought a BMW 7-series, 76 a Mercedes S-Class.
