Max Verstappen: “I didn’t know this is my 100th race at Red Bull, I think I’m getting old”

Max Verstappen thinks age is starting to play tricks on him as he had completely lost sight of the Spanish GP being his 100th race for Red Bull.

He is still only twenty-three years old but seems to have been part of the Formula 1 circus for an eternity. In 2015 he made his debut at Toro Rosso at the age of seventeen, where he had the opportunity to mature further, but after four races in 2016, Dr Helmut Marko decided to promote him to the main force of Red Bull at the expense of Daniil Kvyat.

The young Dutchman thanked for that opportunity by immediately winning his first race in the colors of Red Bull.

“Barcelona will always keep special memories for me,” said Verstappen ahead of his return to the site of his first F1 triumph.

“Your first F1 win is quite emotional, especially when it comes as a bit of a shock to everyone as it was my debut for the team. I don’t get emotional that often, but I was almost in tears that day, just like my father. ”

“Everything flashes through your head about how you got into Formula 1. It hasn’t always been easy and people think if you win it looks easy, but you have to work hard to get there. Like all young riders, we were away from home a lot, traveled across Europe and worked as hard as possible. ”

“Of course I had a lot of help from my father who prepared me very well, but there is no guarantee that you will make it to Formula 1, but as a family that was always the goal. Suddenly, after the victory, it all flashes through your head and it was a fantastic day ”

“I’ve said it so many times, my first win was a shock, nobody expected it, so it’s a day I’ll never forget. I am very grateful to everyone who worked with me and got this far at such a young age. ”

Five years later, Verstappen’s counter stands at a total of ninety-nine races for Red Bull, of which he managed to win eleven. However, he himself had not realized that there were already so many.

“The 100 races with Red Bull went so fast, I didn’t know there were that many! I’m definitely getting old, ”Verstappen concludes with a joke.
