There are too many Porsche 911 models. You have the Porsche 911 Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera S, Carrera 4S, Turbo and Turbo S. All as a coupé and as a convertible. And then there are the Targa 4, Targa 4S and GT3. Are we there then? No! Because the planning also includes the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the GT2 and the GT3 Touring.
You should see the latter as a slightly tamed version of the GT3. Not tamed in the sense of power and performance, but of a little more luxury and comfort (a little more). The Porsche 911 GT3 of the previous generation (the 991) was delivered as Touring for the first time. You can easily recognize it because it lacks the large wing of the ‘normal’ GT3.
The latest Porsche 911 GT3 is of course of the type 992. Unlike the current Carrera models and the 911 Turbo, the 911 GT3 does not have a turbo engine, but a high-revving naturally aspirated six-cylinder with a displacement of 4.0 liters. The boxer block only turns into the limiter at 9000 rpm and delivers 510 hp and 470 Nm. That is 10 hp and 10 Nm more than the previous generation.
Porsche is supplying the brand new 911 GT3 with a manual six-speed gearbox or a PDK transmission with seven speeds and a double clutch. With the former, the Porsche 911 GT3 reaches 100 km / h in 3.9 seconds. The PDK version is no less than 0.5 seconds faster. The top speed of both is not that far apart: 318 km / h for the GT3 with manual gearbox, 320 km / h for the PDK.
Last year we drove the Porsche 911 Turbo S. This 650 hp super sports car weighs about 1640 kilos. The more track-oriented 911 GT3 is no less than 220 kilos lighter. With a vehicle weight of 1,418 kilos, it is even slightly less heavy than the previous generation 911 GT3. It features thinner glass, carbon-ceramic rear brakes, lightweight wheels (20-inch front, 21-inch rear), a carbon fiber hood and wing, and more.
