During the last practice session before the Austrian GP, Max Verstappen set the fastest time on the Red Bull Ring. The Dutchman kept both Mercedes drivers behind him by half a second, thus increasing the pressure on Lewis Hamilton again.
On Friday, it was Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton who each managed to finish a practice session as fastest. The two world title rivals were given a third and final practice session to best prepare for qualifying and the race.
With Sebastian Vettel there was a birthday boy walking around in the F1 paddock, but there was also a reason to celebrate at Mercedes. Seven-time F1 champion extended his contract until the end of 2023.
The drivers once again pushed the limits of the car and the track during this final practice session. F1 rookie Yuki Tsunoda made a spin but luckily managed not to seriously damage his F1 car.
Also at Ferrari, both drivers went full throttle: Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz went far too wide but were able to continue their way.
In the end it was Max Verstappen who managed to set the fastest time and with that, just like last weekend, he is the favorite to conquer pole position on the Red Bull Ring. Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton placed Mercedes in second and third, but were again forced to chase.
