With six races to go, Max Verstappen is only six points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. The last time Hamilton had to compete so fiercely for the world title was with Nico Rosberg in 2016, a battle he lost to his German teammate.

The title battle with Rosberg then lasted until the very last race, something that is also expected this year between Hamilton and Verstappen. Although, according to Horner, there will be a different rivalry between Hamilton and Verstappen than there was with Nico Rosberg.

“I think things like that are always evolving,” Horner told The Guardian. “Lewis has had a great career so far and is still in great shape. He is still a titan of the sport.”

“The fact that Max can compete with him so intensely at the moment, nose-to-nose, Lewis probably did not expect throughout his career, especially during the many years that he has become champion.”

The urge to win that coveted eighth world title will start to weigh on Hamilton, according to Horner, as he would then be the only record holder.

“Obviously there is a lot at stake for him, he is going for his eighth world title, which would be a record. Max is going for his first and he knows there will be many more years to come,” said Horner.
