The Maserati Grecale was due to be unveiled to the public on November 16. That will now be sometime in the spring of 2022. The problem? Maserati can’t get enough computer chips to start serial production of the Grecale. The worldwide shortage of chips has led to major problems for car manufacturers in recent months. Several brands have already had to temporarily shut down their production lines.
The Grecale will be part of the Maserati delivery program under the Levante and is of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio size. We don’t know anything about the drive yet, but we assume that Maserati will spoon the mild hybrid powertrain of the Maserati Ghibli Hybrid into the Grecale anyway. It gets 330 hp and 450 Nm from a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 48V technology.
Like the Maserati Ghibli and Levante, the Grecale is named after a type of wind (the translation of the Italian word ‘grecale’ is ‘Greek wind’). Other Maseratis named after wind types are the Bora, Khamsin and Mistral. Quattroporte – that other well-known Maserati name – sounds very exotic, but literally translated it just means ‘Four doors’.
