Motocross rider Jago Geerts takes his ninth victory in a Grand Prix

Jago Geerts (Yamaha) won the Grand Prix MX2 in Lombardy on Sunday, the seventeenth and penultimate round of the Motocross World Championship. It is the ninth GP victory in his career for 21-year-old Kempenaar, his second this year after winning in Lommel this summer.

Geerts was second in the first heat in Mantua and won the second heat. That was enough for a GP victory for Frenchman Maxime Renaux (Yamaha), who already secured the world title last week.

On the Belgian side, Julian Vander Auwera (Kawasaki) finished 25th, after a 24th and a 26th place in the series. Florent Lambillon (KTM) was 26th after finishing 25th twice.

Due to his victory, Geerts is seven points behind the second place of Frenchman Tom Vialle (KTM), who finished the GP of Lombardy in third place in the World Cup standings.

The last Grand Prix of the season will take place on Wednesday at the same circuit in Mantua.
