Laurens Vanthoor (Porsche) secured the title in the GTD (GT3) category in the IMSA Sportscar Championship, the North American endurance championship, on Saturday. He did that thanks to a second-place finish in the Petit Le Mans, a ten-hour race in Road Atlanta.

The Limburger and his Canadian teammate Zach Robichon finished seven seconds behind the Aston Martin driven by the Canadian Roman de Angelis and the British Ross Gunn and Ian James. That was enough for Vanthoor to win a title in the IMSA for the second time. In 2019 he was the best in the GTLM (GTE) category.
Vanthoor had to drop a class this season because Porsche was phasing out its factory program in the GTLM. He won this championship four out of ten races and finished on the podium two more times.
