Mercedes and Red Bull continue to fight each other in the battle for the world title. Mercedes has announced that it will protest against the failure to receive a penalty from Max Verstappen in Brazil.

Teams have the option to request a review, should there be new evidence that was not available to race officials at the time. On lap 48 of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Verstappen and Hamilton went off the track together, after the defending Dutchman braked on the inside later, said he was at the limit in terms of grip level and then let his car run outside. Both drivers then ended up outside the track and Verstappen eventually retained the lead. Eleven laps later Hamilton passed him and won the race.

The stewards quickly decided not to hand out a penalty, but at the time, for example, did not have all the so-called on board images. Those images clearly show that Verstappen is not steering towards Hamilton, but seems to be suffering from understeer.

Mercedes will want to aim for a time penalty for Verstappen. Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas finished third just three seconds behind the Dutchman.

Earlier this season, a Red Bull ‘Right of Review’ came to nothing after Verstappen’s crash at Silverstone after a duel with Hamilton.
