The Italian Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) won the final race of the MotoGP championship in Valencia on Sunday. The vice world champion recorded his fourth win of the season, but all attention naturally went to the departing Valentino Rossi.

Jorge Martin (Ducati-Pramac) and Jack Miller (Ducati) rounded out the podium in this eighteenth and final event of the season. Frenchman Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) was already certain of the world title, ahead of Bagnaia, and finished fifth.

For Bagnaia’s compatriot and living legend Valentino Rossi (42) it was his very last game. The nine-time world champion finished tenth in his 432nd Grand Prix (over all categories). Rossi finishes the season in eighteenth place in the World Cup standings, his lowest result in 26 years at world level. His last world title was in 2009, his last GP victory in 2017.

Rossi leaves the active sport with an unparalleled record in the premier class. Since his debut in 2001, he has been champion seven times, won 89 races and was on the podium 199 times.
