Nico Rosberg estimates Max Verstappen higher than Lewis Hamilton: “He gets better under pressure”
Until recently, Nico Rosberg was the only one in the hybrid era to beat Lewis Hamilton in the battle for the world title. But now he has been joined by Max Verstappen and he doesn’t mind at all because he says that Verstappen did a great job last season, according to him.
“He was just phenomenal,” said Rosberg. The 2016 world champion also says he has seen a Verstappen who has performed extremely consistently throughout the season, both in the races and in qualifying.
“The level he has shown against Lewis, in dominant form with Mercedes, is unbelievable.”
He also saw a Verstappen who was better at wheel-to-wheel battles: “Normally Lewis is the best at that but Verstappen was probably even better.”
Another thing Rosberg has noticed is how well Max Verstappen performs under pressure.
“Verstappen is even better under pressure. I was three tenths slower under pressure, he was two tenths faster under pressure. He’s probably number one all season long, especially when you consider that he’s had some more setbacks.”
