Lewis Hamilton has been silent since the lost season finale in Abu Dhabi. The rumor mill about a possible F1 farewell is increasing and according to Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff that would be very painful for the sport.

Lewis Hamilton has been inactive on social media for weeks. According to insiders, the lost season finale and the ‘dubious’ decisions by the race management have hit Hamilton hard, especially in the days after the Abu Dhabi GP.

So much so that Hamilton would consider leaving Formula 1. According to the latest rumors, Hamilton’s decision would depend on the FIA’s investigation into the decisions made during the season’s finale in Abu Dhabi and the actions that will follow.

Earlier this week, the FIA announced its findings and action ahead of the first race in Bahrain. It also ensures that Hamilton does not have the luxury of waiting for the announcement of the results of the investigation and the actions that will be taken. After all, two three-day F1 tests are already taking place in February and early March.

Mercedes may have hinted at Hamilton’s extended stay in the sport in recent days, but Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff also seems unsure.

According to Toto Wolff, a possible farewell to Hamilton would be particularly bad for Formula 1 and the image of the sport.

“I really hope we’ll see him again. He is the most important part of our sport,” said Wolff during an interview with the Austrian ‘Krone’.

“It would be a mockery for the entire Formula 1 if the best driver decides to leave the sport because of outrageous decisions.”

“Whatever obstacle he faced, he has known all his life that he must answer on the track. But it is incredibly difficult for him to find the way between being right or wrong. It will just take time.”

Toto Wolff said he has not yet scheduled a concrete moment to talk to Lewis Hamilton.

“By February at the latest, and certainly not to drink tequila, I’ve had enough of that in Abu Dhabi,” he refers to images of him that surfaced on social media.
