Sébastien Ogier is fastest during shakedown, Neuville sets fourth in Rally of Monte Carlo
Sébastien Ogier (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) was fastest on Thursday morning during the shakedown of the Monte Carlo, the opening race of the WRC 2022. Ogier was 0.5 seconds faster than Sébastien Loeb (Ford Puma Rally1). Elfyn Evans (Toyota GR Yaris Rally1) set the third fastest time ahead of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai i20 N Rally1). The Monte Carlo starts on Thursday evening with the first classification stages.
He may have started a part-time job as a rally driver, but in the Monte Carlo Sébastien Ogier is just there, as is his compatriot Sébastien Loeb. Together they won seventeen world titles and the Monte Carlo fifteen times in the past eighteen years.
In the 2.29km GC stage set in the mountains near Monaco, Ogier was half a second faster than Loeb, who has just returned from a successful Dakar in which he won two stages and finished second. Elfyn Evans, Toyota’s leader, set the third fastest time ahead of Thierry Neuville, who set the fourth fastest time, 1.8 seconds behind Ogier.
“Overall, the car worked well,” said Ogier. “It wasn’t really a representative shakedown, it’s not the same character as the rides we will do later. So it’s not that easy to make sure it’s all right for tonight, but at least we could check that the car is good.”
