Lewis Hamilton’s silence is a way to distance himself from Toto Wolff

If we are to believe Jacques Villeneuve, Lewis Hamilton’s silence is a way of distancing himself from Toto Wolff’s behaviour.

Losing the world title to Max Verstappen has hit Mercedes very hard, both for Lewis Hamilton and his team boss Toto Wolff. While Hamilton has been silent since the Abu Dhabi GP, Wolff has repeatedly vented that he strongly disagrees with how things have turned out in the season finale.

Jacques Villeneuve thinks Lewis Hamilton’s radio silence has to do with Wolff’s behaviour. According to the Canadian, Lewis Hamilton is very concerned about his image and he wants to do everything he can not to let it be dragged through the mud by the statements of Toto Wolff.

“I interpret his silence as a way of distancing himself from Wolff,” Villeneuve told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“After all, you can lose in style, but instead Toto acts like someone who loses a game of Monopoly and then knocks over the board. I think he damaged his reputation by behaving like this. Hamilton is wise in this case, he is thinking about his future.”

The 1997 world champion is never short of a strong statement and that is no different this time. He thinks Hamilton goes to great lengths to keep his image as intact as possible because he is considering moving to the United States and aspiring a career in Hollywood one day.
