In de Dark Knight Trilogy – Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) in The Dark Knight Rises (2012) – Batman drives an experimental military vehicle, which he transforms into his Batmobile with a lick of black paint. The colossus is distinctly different from the Batmobiles in previous films, which were mostly over the top and flamboyant, with lots of Gothic wings and fins.
The ‘Tumbler’, as the Batmobile from the Nolan films is known, appeals to the imagination, partly because a fully working copy was used on the set. The Vietnamese artist Nguyen Dan Chung in any case, was inspired to make his own Batmobile. First one with a combustion engine and now an electric one.
You can buy it! It just doesn’t say what the machine should cost. The Batmobile is based on a tubular steel frame and has body panels made of steel, carbon fiber and other composite materials. It is 3.7 meters long, 2.4 meters wide and 1.3 meters high. 33-inch tires are mounted at the rear. The ones in the front are 22 inches tall.
Can you tell the Batmobile isn’t actually from the movie? Yes, but only on some minor points. The wheels and tires are smaller and some changes have been made to the aerodynamics and the air intakes. The vehicle weighs only 600 kg and has a top speed of 105 km/h. Its range is unknown, but it will probably not be impressive.
The Batmobile offers space for two people, who have to squeeze in through hydraulically opened hatches. As you can imagine, the blind spots are huge, so there are four cameras that give the driver a 360-degree view of the environment.
