huh?! Why you should just refuel with the electric Nissan Qashqai E-Power

How does it work? Easy. The Nissan Qashqai E-Power has a battery on board, an electric motor and a 1.5-liter turbo three-cylinder with a variable compression ratio (from 8:1 to 14:1). The latter never drives the wheels. It is purely there to generate electricity for the electric motor, which does drive the wheels. Depending on the situation, the electricity is stored in the battery, sent directly to the electric motor or distributed between the battery and the electric motor.

We already saw technology Nissan Qashqai E-Power in the Opel Ampera

Is Nissan’s E-Power concept new? No, the Fisker Karma (remember those?) and the first generation Opel Ampera worked about the same way. And in Japan, the Nissan Note was already available with the same technology. According to Nissan, the advantage of the E-Power powertrain is that the petrol engine does not have to drive the wheels and can therefore always remain within the ideal rev range, with the best compression ratio. This increases its efficiency and reduces its emissions.

Maximum torque available immediately from standstill

Another advantage is that the electric motor has its maximum torque available from standstill. So when you accelerate, you don’t feel a delay in the accelerator pedal and you immediately take off quickly. The Nissan Qashqai E-Power is 188 hp strong. If you demand the same amount of the electric motor, for example if you give ‘full throttle’ at the traffic light, it will receive electricity from the battery and petrol engine together. Like all hybrids and electric cars, the Qashqai also recovers energy, such as during braking.

Linear Tune to prevent the fuel engine from sounding ‘weird’

A potential problem with the E-Power powertrain is that the engine noise is disproportionate to the acceleration of the car. This is also the case, for example, with a fuel car with a continuously variable transmission, where the speed is constantly kept at the ideal level. Nissan has come up with something for it: Linear Tune. This system gradually increases the revs of the petrol engine during acceleration, making it sound more natural to occupants.
