The Briton won six Grand Prix in his career and narrowly missed the world title in 1959. After Juan Manuel Fangio, Alberto Ascari and Stirling Moss, Brooks was the most successful pilot of his generation.

Brooks debuted for BRM in the British GP in 1956. He drove for Vanwall for the next two years, after which Enzo Ferrari asked him to race for his famous team. Brooks would race until 1961.

“I am sad to hear that Tony Brooks has passed away,” said F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali. “He was part of a special group of pilots. They were pioneers and pushed the boundaries at a time of great risk. He will be missed and our thoughts go out to his family during this time.”
