On Saturday, the qualifier was broadcast on ESPN to 953 000 viewers. The first practice session on Friday was watched by 398,000 viewers. With this, Formula 1 achieved the highest viewing figures since the sport returned to the United States in 2018.
ABC, the parent company to ESPN, took over the broadcast on Sunday and that gave a boost to the ratings. On average, about 2.6 million viewers saw Max Verstappen triumph during the Miami GP, an all-time record for Formula 1 in the United States.
By comparison, NASCAR also held the Darlington 400 on Sunday, which was watched by 2.61 million people. More than decent figures for F1.
