Why the current Rolls-Royce Phantom is not the best car in the world

Did your neighbor buy a new Rolls-Royce Phantom a while ago? Too bad for him, because as of today it is no longer the best car in the world. Rolls-Royce is making a number of ‘subtle but meaningful improvements’. According to Rolls-Royce boss Torsten Müller Ötvös, these reflect the ‘changing tastes and demands of customers’.

In short, according to the Rolls-Royce drivers themselves, it could always be more beautiful, more luxurious and more comfortable. The most important change to the renewed Phantom concerns the grille. However, do not be afraid that Rolls-Royce will now install a subtle grille in the Phantom. It is still a fence with the dimensions of a castle gate, but heavily chromed. The customer can also choose to have the top and bottom in the color of the hood.

Rolls-Royce Phantom and Skoda Enyaq iV Overeenkomst agreement

Another difference from your neighbor’s Phantom is the horizontal bar at the top of the grille. This connects with an optical connection to the LED daytime running lights on the top of the headlamps. The whole looks more modern, smoother and more streamlined. To top it off, the grille is now also illuminated. Just like the Rolls-Royce Ghost. And the Skoda Enyaq iV, just to name a model of the competition …

Who looks into the headlights of the Phantom, sees stars

Another new detail that we don’t want to withhold from you concerns the headlights themselves. The glasses are decorated with an apparently haphazard pattern of small seeds. That is not crushed stone, but should give the impression of stars. According to Rolss-Royce, this fits in perfectly with the headliner of the interior, which also incorporates countless tiny lights.

Stainless Steel Wheels

The flying lady, or the Spirit of Ecstacy on the grille, has also been slightly modified. Furthermore, Rolls-Royce claims that the C-pillar of the Phantom now offers more privacy. How then, is not clear to us, because we see no difference with the past. What en profile does give a completely different picture, is if you order the Rolls-Royce Phantom with the new stainless steel disc wheels. According to the manufacturer, they hark back to the design of Rolls-Royces from 100 years ago. You can also order them painted black, by the way, but we wouldn’t – unless we were a rapper or professional footballer, probably.

One fabric and one leather: Phantom Platino

If you want Phantom just a bit different from the neighbor’s – should he soon also buy the very latest – then you can have him give the bespoke treatment. In that department they make your Rolls completely according to your individual wishes. Or you can opt for the Phantom Platinum. It is not fully loaded with leather on the inside. The front seats are made of the usual cowhides, but textiles have been used in the back.

Ceramics on the dashboard

Of course, no cheap polyester was used for this, but what exactly is remains partly a mystery. Rolls-Royce talks about ‘various fabrics, one made in an Italy and chosen for its durable yet luxurious look, the other derived from bamboo fibres, selected for its glossy finish’. The result is a beautiful fabric cover with embroidered patterns, in a silvery white hue, reminiscent of platinum. Hence: Platinum. 3D-printed ceramics have been used for the dashboard frame, in the same motif as the bamboo fabric. Nice? In any case special. Although they prefer to say it differently at the manufacturer: “Little things make perfection, but perfection is no small matter.” As Sir Henry Royce once summed up his brand’s motto…
