Eduardo Mortara has won the first of two Formula E races in Berlin. Mortara won the race ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne and Vandoorne who remains in the championship lead.
Stoffel Vandoorne started the race in eighth place but got off to a bad start. Vandoorne lost several places but then fought his way back to the front ranks with a good strategy and above all a very strong race.
At the end of the race, Vandoorne seemed to be able to fight for the win, but Mortara was able to pass Vandoorne thanks to the help of ‘attack mode’. In the end, Jean-Eric Vergne also succeeded in that, so Vandoorne had to be satisfied with third place on the podium.
Stoffel Vandoorne, but also at Mercedes, were very satisfied with third place afterwards, especially given the position a few laps away in the race. both Mercedes drivers were out of the points.
“I’m not going to lie, I’m a little surprised to be here on the podium,” Vandoorne said afterwards. “My first laps in the race weren’t that good, I lost an incredible amount of places, I think at one point I fell back to 15th or so.”
“However, I kept my cool, I felt that there was potential in the car, that it was fast. I was able to really take advantage of that today, was efficient in overtaking and together with the team’s strategy we achieved this result.”
