Bernie Ecclestone, the former Formula 1 boss, was arrested at Brazil’s Viracorps airport in Campinas on Wednesday after a weapon was discovered in his luggage.
An LW Seecamp .32 pistol was discovered in Bernie Ecclestone’s luggage during an x-ray screening. The gun was discovered when Ecclestone, 91, was about to board a private jet bound for Switzerland. Bernie Ecclestone was unable to provide the necessary documents and was arrested.
Ecclestone told authorities that he was indeed the owner of the gun but that he was unaware it was in his luggage. The former F1 boss was then released on bail and flew to Switzerland as scheduled.
Bernie Ecclestone, 91, married Fabiana Flosi, 46 years her junior, in 2012, together they own a farm in Brazil and regularly travel between Europe and Brazil.
