You will soon be able to buy the electric Cupra UrbanRebel for 20,000 euros

Whatever the Volkswagen Group claims, last night’s Cupra presentation is proof that Seat is in a death house construction. Cupra – which already has one electric car in its delivery program: the Born – will get two new EVs in one fell swoop. Seat, on the other hand, still doesn’t have one. Of the announced plug-in Cupras, the UrbanRebel is the most interesting. It will soon be on the market for about 20,000 to 25,000 euros.

The Volkswagen Group has the ambition to make electric cars accessible to a larger group of people. That is why the group will introduce compact triplets in 2025: the Cupra UrbanRebel, Volkswagen ID. Life and an as yet unknown Skoda variant of it. It is of course striking that Seat is not in that list and that feeds speculation that the brand is slowly being turned around. Sources within Volkswagen even claim that Seat will be closed in a few years.

Cupra UrbanRebel as big as a Seat Ibiza

Of the three new electric models, the Cupra UrbanRebel is the first to be launched. It has front-wheel drive and is on the MEB Small platform of the Volkswagen Group. With its length of 4.03 meters, the UrbanRebel is in the class of the Seat Ibiza, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Polo. Cupra also gives some details about the powertrain. The UrbanRebel is 226 hp strong, goes to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds and has a range of up to 440 kilometers.

VW small electric cars built at Seat

As the car is now on the accompanying photos, it is still a concept car. But one that looks pretty production-ready. Painfully, the UrbanRebel and its Skoda and Volkswagen siblings are built at the Seat factory in Martorell, near Barcelona. Seat may therefore produce the electric cars of the Volkswagen Group, but will receive nothing at all. Poor Seat!
