This is why this Alfa Romeo Tonale doesn’t have a triangular Scudetto grille

No, your eyes don’t deceive you. The camouflaged SUV in these photos is indeed an Alfa Romeo Tonale. But why doesn’t the car wear the typical triangle grille, the Scudetto?

The Alfa Romeo Tonale arrives in the Netherlands this month. For the time being, it is only available as a mild hybrid with a 1.5-litre engine and an output of 130 or 160 hp. You can not order a manual gearbox, Alfa Romeo always gives you a seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch. In time, a 275 hp plug-in hybrid will also be launched on the market.

Alfa Romeo Tonale gets an American brother

The Tonale is the very last Alfa Romeo that was still developed under the wings of Fiat Chrysler. Future Alfas will undoubtedly use Stellantis technology. Also a throwback to the Fiat Chrysler era is the car in these spy photos: the Dodge Hornet. It will be the American variant of the Alfa, with really only a different front to distinguish it from its Italian brother.

Dodge Hornet gets fatter engine than the Tonale

Although, the Dodge Hornet is also Italian. It is simply screwed together on the same assembly line as the Tonale. The Americans will probably get other engines, though, because a 1.5′ is not enough on the other side of the ocean, of course. Reportedly, the Hornet will be fitted with a 2.0-liter turbo, which is linked to a nine-speed automatic transmission. With the plug-in hybrid powertrain of the Tonale, the model will be the first electrified Dodge ever.
