Max Verstappen beams after victory in Azerbaijan and is next to Niki Lauda in number of victories
Max Verstappen beamed from ear to ear after his spectacular victory in the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Azerbaijan. “I’m really happy because I finally had the right balance in the car. I had an incredible pace and I could pay close attention to the tires. I could really go the extra mile today,” said the winner after the race.

He recorded his fifth win of the season and the 25th of his career. In the all-time ranking, the Dutch driver of Red Bull has risen to joint ninth place. He is now on par with three-time World Champion Niki Lauda and two-time World Champion Jim Clark.
“Of course I was a bit lucky because of the Ferrari retirements, but the car was very good today. The grip was good and I kept the tires intact, that’s what you need,” said the Dutchman, who did not forget to include team-mate Sergio Pérez in his success. “We finish first and second again today, so it’s a good day for us.”
