The arrival of the new BMW M2 makes us laugh, but also cry. Because as wonderful as the introduction of a new BMW M is, this one is bittersweet. The M2 will be BMW’s last sports car without hybrid support.
Is the BMW M2 ready yet? No, he is currently in the final testing phase, which will be conducted at the Salzburgring in Austria. BMW has not yet revealed any details about its latest sports coupe, but we do know that it will be powered by the 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six from the M3 and M4 (480 hp). But since the M2 should not outclass its more expensive brothers, the power is undoubtedly tweaked a bit. BMW says the new M2 has the same level of performance as the ‘old’ M2 CS. Based on that, we assume a power of at least 450 hp.
The M2 follows the same recipe as that of its predecessor. That means a more aggressively styled, wider body, which will balance the somewhat odd proportions of the regular 2-series Coupé. Two transmissions are available for the M2, a six-speed manual and an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard. There will be no 4WD option. BMW will only launch the new M2 in a year, in the spring of 2023, but will reveal it as early as October this year.
