Groupe PSA and Fiat Chrysler have merged into the monster concern Stellantis. And followers of the car world immediately know what that means: synergy. That is why the Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka and DS 3 Crossback are subcutaneously the same and we now also get a Jeep variant of the well-known trio.
What will the new Jeep be called? We don’t know, so we’ll stick to ‘Baby Renegade’ for now. Although it could of course also replace the Renegade, the compact Jeep model that has been on the market since 2015 and uses Fiat technology. The Jeep in these spy photos is in any case on the CMP platform of PSA, known for the Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka and DS 3 Crossback.
Reportedly, the ‘Baby Renegade’ is not produced in France, where its platform mates do roll off the production line, but in the Fiat factory in Poland. It seems a foregone conclusion that the Jeep will get an electric variant: with one electric motor, a power of 136 hp and a 50 kWh battery. The Opel and Peugeot can reach a maximum distance of 340 kilometers with this.
Petrol and diesel versions are also available, based on the arrival of the 1.2 Puretech three-cylinder Peugeot, which is good for 100, 130 or 155 hp in 2008. A Jeepje with 1.5 HDi turbo diesel may also be on the agenda. The Renegade / ‘Baby Renegade’ will be presented this year and will be available with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
