Oh, how your dog will hate this BMW M3 Touring!

Actually, we are already tired of the BMW M3 Touring. BMW has completely teased the new M3 variant in recent months: first with a shadow photo, then with a stickered prototype and then with a glimpse of the rear. Now we finally get to see the M3 Touring.

BMW creates a lot of fuss around the M3 Touring, because yes … the model is of course the first M3 station wagon ever. Only the E34 and E60 / E61 BMW M5 ever released a pack mule variant on the market. In the hallowed halls of the BMW archive is a prototype of an E46 M3 Touring, but it was never put into production. And so are the Bavarian Motor Work richly late. After all, Audi and Mercedes have been achieving success for decades with the S4 / RS4 Avant and the C-class AMG.

BMW M3 Touring only as stronger Competition

Anyway, despite all the fuss, the BMW M3 Touring is simply a derivative of an already existing model. It uses the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-in-line, which produces 510 hp and 650 Nm. The four-wheel drive Touring is only available as a stronger Competition. So you can’t order it with only rear-wheel drive and 480 hp and 550 Nm, as you can with the ‘normal’ M3 and M4.

Optional with top speed of 280 km/h

The luggage compartment of the M3 Touring is 500 – 1510 liters. You’d rather put a plastic sheet there if you take the dog for a walk, because after a sprint to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, the poor animal can’t keep his kibble down. Over the border, in Germany, the new BMW easily reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. It can go even faster, but for that you have to check the M Driver’s Package on the option list. Then the limiter allows 280 km/h.

Manual gearbox not available, always an automatic

Like the other M3 and M4 models, the Touring is equipped with an adaptive sports suspension, a locking differential on the rear axle, improved brakes, and more. Unfortunately, you cannot order a manual gearbox. The M3 Touring always shifts with an eight-speed dual clutch transmission. Optional are carbon ceramic brakes, but they really only have added value if you regularly visit the circuit.

New dashboard of facelifted BMW 3-series

The appearance then … That is predictable, with the unpleasant grille of the M3 / M4, extended wheel arches, four exhaust pipes and large wheels. In the interior it is striking that the Touring has the dashboard of the facelifted 3-series. This replaces the separate instrument cluster and infotainment display with one large ‘skateboard’ screen, which is curved very slightly towards the driver. The BMW M3 Touring will be launched at the end of this year. Count on a price of just under 150,000 euros.
