The demand for new cars is high, but manufacturers cannot supply them. And sit the 2022 car sales in the min. Which brands are falling the fastest?
In 2022, 153,708 new cars have been registered so far. In the first half of 2021 there were still 162,762; a decrease of 6 percent. It is not a question of demand, but chip shortages, the war in Ukraine and corona still play a major role in the production of new cars. And therefore not enough can be supplied. One brand whistling through the misery, the other brand mourns.
The Peugeot 208 is the number 1 of 2022, with the electric e-208 accounting for about 40 percent of the total of 4927.
Volkswagen was the best-selling brand in the Netherlands for many years, but is sinking considerably. With 11,804 registrations, the brand is doing a lot worse than last year (14,787). A meager fourth place in the ranking, behind Kia, Peugeot and Toyota, is below Volkswagen’s position. The faces of group members Seat and Skoda are also sour, with declines of 46 and 28.9 percent. At Volvo, the Swedish meatballs can stay in the fridge, because it sold 31.3 percent fewer cars.
Kia is unstoppable and continues to show itself to be crisis-resistant in 2022. It is once again the best-selling brand in the Netherlands (14,346 cars, market share 9.3 percent). The Koreans are even doing a fraction better than last year, when the counter stood at 14,212.
Concern mate Hyundai is in absolute numbers much less popular, but is making a resounding catch up. It managed to double its sales, from 4276 to 8559. That’s not even thanks to the Ioniq 5, especially the small i10 and the tough Tucson are popular.
Dacia shows that affordable, unpretentious cars are in high demand. It sold no less than 75 percent more cars than in 2021. This is mainly due to the new Jogger and the Spring, the cheapest electric car in the Netherlands.
Peugeot – after Kia the most popular brand in the Netherlands – also goes against the trend and sells more cars. Audi and Toyota pluses as well.
Top 5 January-June 2022
For the second half of 2022, Toyota is deploying a sales gun. The Aygo X has only just been available and is already rumbling into the top 5 of June. Furthermore, if we only look at last month, the top 5 was mainly a French-German party of the B-segment. The Peugeot 208 is also at the top here, followed by the Opel Corsa, Peugeot 2008 and Volkswagen Polo.
