3 reasons why the price of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power scares you

The Nissan Qashqai e-Power price is 43,790 euros. That’s a bit of a shock, because you can already buy a regular Qashqai for 32,640 euros. A difference of 11 grand! Why is the hybrid Nissan so expensive?

The Qashqai e-Power has fascinating technology: it drives electrically, on electricity generated by the combustion engine. This has two major advantages: the Qashqai drives just as smoothly as an EV and you don’t get any range fear. You just fill up with petrol, charging is not necessary and is not possible.

Price Nissan Qashqai e-Power:

  • N-Connecta – 43,790 euros
  • Tekna – 45,890 euros
  • Tekna+ – 49,390 euros

Reason 1: Qashqai e-Power has more technology

The e-Power contains more technology than a regular Qashqai (from 32,460 euros). Because both versions have a petrol engine, but then the e-Power comes with a battery pack and an electric motor. In addition, the petrol engine is not the ordinary three-cylinder, but a four-cylinder that is focused on economy. That makes the Qashqai e-Power more expensive to manufacture. Three guesses who gets to pay that…

Reason 2: the hybrid Qashqai is not super economical

Where plug-in hybrids are very economical on paper, with super low CO2 emissions for which little BPM is charged, the Qashqai e-Power has a solid emission of 119 g/km. This beats the mild-hybrid Qashqai (143 g/km), but you still pay a lot of purchase tax. That is not surprising, because the new Toyota Corolla Cross with hybrid drive also emits 119 grams.

Reason 3: Nissan only supplies expensive versions

What also makes the Qashqai e-Power expensive is its complete equipment. Nissan Netherlands skips the basic versions Access, Visia and Acenta, and supplies the hybrid Qashqai only as luxury N-Connecta, Tekna and Tekna+. An N-Connecta with the cheapest engine (mild-hybrid 140 hp) costs 40,290 euros, so the e-Power is 3,500 euros more expensive.
