Are you too tight in the electric Kia EV6? Then wait for this Kia EV9

About nine months ago, Kia unveiled the Concept EV9 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, a study model of a hefty plug-in SUV. Our spy photographer came across the production version in Germany. The Kia EV9 will be launched next year as the electric flagship above the popular Kia EV6.

Beneath the camouflage, we catch hints of the design of the Kia EV9, which is clearly related to the concept car unveiled last year. The sturdy Tonca shape of the model returns and we also recognize the imposed hood and the widened wheel arches that flare out in triangles. The study model had so-called suicide doors, with the rear doors opening in opposite directions. You will not see that on the final EV9. When we see its proportions, we think of American SUVs, such as the Ford Explorer and Ford Bronco.

Kia EV9 about 25 centimeters longer than EV6

However, the EV9 will also be launched in Europe sometime next year. We don’t know much about the final version yet. The concept car is 4.9 meters long, 2.0 meters wide and 1.8 meters high. To put that into context, it’s about 10 inches longer than the Kia EV6. The interior has room for three rows of seats. According to Kia, the Concept EV9 has a range of 483 kilometers and can charge with no less than 350 kW (the EV6 comes to 240 kW). Whether the eventual EV9 can do that too, we know in the not too distant future.
