Jago Geerts triumphs in front of his own audience in the GP of Flanders MX2 and expands the World Cup lead
In the second race of the MX2 Grand Prix of Belgium, our compatriot Jago Geerts (Yamaha) crossed the line first on Sunday. He beat the Dutchman Kay de Wolf (Husqvarna), winner of the first series earlier Sunday. Norwegian Kevin Horgmo (Kawasaki) finished third. The GP victory is for Geerts.
Liam Everts (KTM), currently thirteenth in the World Cup standings, finished seventh in the second heat. In the first series of the GP in his own country he rode to fifth place.
Geerts took the GP victory on the sand circuit in Lommel, ahead of De Wolf. Thanks to his win, he ends up in the World Cup position. His closest opponent is Tom Vialle (KTM) and he did not get further than third place in Lommel after a seventh and fourth place.
After the previous Grand Prix, that of the Czech Republic, Geerts counted eight points more than the Frenchman in the World Cup position. In the meantime, that lead has widened to 23 points. Geerts now has 590 points, Vialle has 567. The third in the standings, Simon Laengenfelder, is more than 100 points behind with 469 points.
The next World Cup round will take place on August 7 in Uddevalla, Sweden.
