Kia EV6 GT review: this electric Kia is faster (and much cheaper) than a Porsche 911

With the electric Kia EV6 GT you will fall from one surprise to another. He beats famous German brands with his performance, his loading speed and his price. Kia currently rules the world of electric cars.

What is striking about the Kia EV6 GT?

With this Kia you can drift. But that’s not all. With its performance, the 575 hp and 740 Nm strong EV6 GT is one of the fastest cars on the market. It has acceleration times that require most gasoline-powered sports cars to surrender. For example, he is the boss of a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 with a six-cylinder boxer engine (0-100 in 4.2 s), with a hundred sprint in 3.5 seconds.

The EV6 GT is even faster than almost any other electric car with its two electric motors and a limited-slip differential. The cars that are faster are sounding names such as the Porsche Taycan Turbo (3.2 s) and Audi RS E-Tron GT (3.4 s). But the Tesla Model Y Performance is led to the second plan with its sprint time of 3.7 seconds. And where the Audi and the Tesla give up at 250 km/h, the Kia EV6, together with the Taycan, continues up to 260 km/h. And then to realize that you can buy two EV6 GTs for the price of this Porsche…

What are the advantages of the Kia EV6 GT?

The Kia EV6 GT is not only lightning fast, but thanks to adaptive shock absorbers also quite comfortable. Even the standard 21-inch wheels (note the huge yellow brake calipers) don’t throw a spanner in the works.

Sporty riders will reach for the green button on the handlebars with eager fingers. In GT mode, the dampers go into their firmest position and you can even activate a Drift mode. Although controlled drifting with an instant torque of 740 Nm – so immediately available in all its intensity when you step on the accelerator – takes some practice …

We have often praised the appearance of the Kia EV6, although there are also plenty of people who are not so pleased with the pronounced design. The GT has a few features that the other EV6s don’t have. If you look closely, you will notice a slightly different front bumper in addition to the 21-inch wheels with five-spoke rims. A larger spoiler was mounted at the rear.

What are the downsides of the Kia EV6 GT?

That is really looking. Come on, we have something: the infographics of the navigation system. The map looks rather dated and pales in comparison to the otherwise so modern dashboard. It takes some getting used to, but not really bothersome, is that the function of the row of digital buttons in the center console changes with the push of a button. Sometimes they serve for climate control, other times for the infotainment system.

When will the Kia EV6 GT come to the Netherlands and what is the price?

No, the Kia EV6 GT does not have a base price with six zeros despite its sports car performance. It costs 68,495 euros. However, with the range of 424 kilometers you have to make some concessions compared to the other EV6 models. The EV6 GT is 4500 euros more expensive than the ‘regular’ EV6 GT-Line AWD with 325 hp. It costs 63,995 euros, sprints from 0 to 100 in 5.2 seconds and has a range of 484 kilometers. Charging the battery is equally fast in both versions, with an impressive 240 kW.

What do I think of the Kia EV6 GT?

Kia lets the European competition sweat again. For a very acceptable price you get a car that easily keeps up with prestigious brands such as Audi and Porsche. The EV6 GT is not only fast and dynamic, but also spacious and comfortable. And it loads very fast too…
