Oscar Piastri on his way to McLaren?: “I won’t race at Alpine in 2023”

Strange twist in the soap around the Alpine F1 team and the replacement of Fernando Alonso. Oscar Piastri denies having a deal to race for France’s Alpine in 2023, which had announced him earlier today as a race driver for next F1 season.

This year’s so-called ‘silly Season’ has certainly not stolen its name because after Alpine announced earlier today that it would promote reserve driver Oscar Piastri to regular driver of the French formation, the young Australian denies the news.

He said on social media that they have spoken out of turn at Alpine and that he will not be driving for the team in 2023.

It is my understanding that Alpine, without my permission, issued a press release in the late afternoon stating that I will be riding for them next year. That is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine before 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year, Piastri said on Twitter.

According to some sources, Piastri would be on his way to the McLaren F1 team where he would replace Daniel Ricciardo next year. That deal would have been closed before it became known that Fernando Alonso announced his departure from Alpine.

No doubt to be continued
