That’s right, this photo shows 9 million euros. Bentley wants to let us know with the posed image that it has already made eight customers happy with a Bacalar. Four very wealthy buyers are still waiting for their copy.
First some context, because in the world of expensive luxury cars and sports cars we see a trend. Wealthy customers are willing to spend millions on ultra-limited models such as the Bentley Bacalar, but also the Ferrari Monza SP1/SP2, Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato Shooting Brake or Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. They have even more money left for unique cars. Ferrari, for example, is doing well with its Special Projects program, which develops expensive one-offs for multimillionaires who want something the neighbor doesn’t have.
Bentley has also discovered the goose that lays the golden eggs and more than a year ago unveiled the Bacalar, a fully open sports car without a convertible roof. Bodybuilder Mulliner, which is part of Bentley, only builds twelve units and has now delivered eight to buyers, all in a different color. Because that’s how it works, of course. If you pay 1.5 million euros for a rare Bentley, you can put it together as you want. And if we may be so bold, the six owners of the cars in the photo have done so tastefully for the most part.
Incidentally, we should not take the sum in the headline and the intro of this story too seriously. The basic price of a Bacalar is 1.5 million euros, but count on the fact that hundreds of thousands of euros in personalization options have been added. After all, nothing is free in the world of luxury manufacturers. Bentley has announced that another limited edition model with a Mulliner carriage is on the way. You would think that all those car-loving millionaires would get tired of all those special Astons, Bentleys, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Porsches that they ‘have to’ pull the wallet for all the time…
