Ford put the Mustang name on an electric SUV and that has worked out well, Chevrolet also sees. That is why the American car giant is expanding its Corvette series with two models that have nothing to do with the old sports car: an electric competitor of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and a plug-in sedan that should make it difficult for the Porsche Taycan.
The current Chevrolet Corvette will not be a fully electric version, but there will be a hybrid variant, which we have spotted a number of times. We won’t see the first Corvette with a plug until 2025, according to Automotive News. That will be a large sports sedan that focuses on the Audi E-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan. Only after 2025 it will be the turn of a Corvette SUV, which probably shares some of its technology with the Cadillac Celestiq.
To return to the hybrid Corvette: it will probably be called E-Ray. Little is known about the powertrain. It is rumored to have the 6.2-litre V8 from the Corvette Stingray, complemented by a single electric motor on the front axle. In terms of power, the E-Ray is said to be above the Stingray (500 hp) and the Z06 (600 hp), with up to 650 hp of available power.
