“McLaren has informed Daniel Ricciardo that his contract will be terminated”

According to various sources, the McLaren F1 team has informed Daniel Ricciardo that his contract will be terminated early. Ricciardo’s contract ran normally until the end of 2023.

A few weeks ago, the first rumors surfaced that Daniel Ricciardo would leave the McLaren F1 team. Ricciardo responded to the speculation by taking to social media to express his commitment to McLaren and that he simply intended to race for McLaren in 2023.

Over the past week, however, a lot has happened on the drivers’ market. Sebastian Vettel announced his departure from Aston Martin after which Fernando Alonso announced his move from the Alpine F1 team to Aston Martin.

The Alpine F1 team then announced that Oscar Piastri would be racing for them in 2023 but this was followed by a message from Piastri on his social media that he would not be racing for Alpine next year. Immediately rumors surfaced that Piastri would like to race for McLaren and there is mounting evidence that this is indeed the plan.

According to ‘Motorsport’, among others, the McLaren F1 team has now informed Daniel Ricciardo that they want to terminate his contract that runs until the end of 2023 early. This, of course, so that Oscar Piastri can form the driver duo together with Lando Norris next year.

The ‘silly season’ is and remains incredibly interesting this year…
