Top and flop – the good and bad car news of week 30

Friday afternoon, half past five. Computer off, the door of your workplace can close behind you, the weekend has started. On we look back on a week in which BMW announced a new entry-level i4 and Porsche gave us a huge scare. Good news, bad news. Top and flop.

+ Top – No budget for a BMW i4? Wait a minute, a new loafer is coming

A BMW i4 comes in two flavors. The 544 hp M50 is available from 73,429 euros, for an eDrive40 with 340 hp you have lost at least 60,630 euros. Is that above your budget? Don’t worry, a new entry-level model is on the way: the BMW i4 eDrive35.

+ Top – Not for wallflowers! This rainbow McLaren will cost you more than 2.7 million euros

As if a McLaren Elva wasn’t striking enough, the first owner of this example ordered it in a rainbow paint. You often saw something like that on TVRs in the 1990s: a body color that changes color when you look at it from a different angle.

+ Top – Do you drive Tesla? You may be shot into space this week

This week, the space company SpaceX is launching a Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter, a satellite that will explore the lunar surface. Also on the space journey are a few thousand Tesla drivers, who have their photo etched on a mosaic.

– Flop – Aaaahhh, our eyes!! Porsche, what are you doing to us with this Cayenne Convertible?

‘Why there’s only one Porsche Cayenne Cabrio’, headlines the official Porsche press site. Well, we can tell you that. Because the thing is horrific, just like the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet.

– Flop – Why the Volkswagen Golf will disappear after almost fifty years

The eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf will receive an interim update next year. Whether there will be a ninth generation is anything but certain, Volkswagen admits. It would not be profitable to develop a new Golf.

– Flop – Research: ‘Absurd behavior Elon Musk deters potential Tesla buyers’

Elon Musk was once the new golden boy. Kind of like Tony Stark, but real, with his own space company and of course Tesla. But ever since he became the richest man in the world and started acting weirder on social media, more and more people are turning to him. Also potential Tesla buyers.
