“Aston Martin has more to gain from this partnership than Fernando Alonso”

Former F1 driver Felipe Massa was also surprised by the announcement that Fernando Alonso will make the switch from Alpine to Aston Martin at the end of this season. According to the Brazilian, Aston Martin has more to gain from the collaboration than Alonso.

“First and foremost, Fernando is a great driver,” said Felipe Massa during the Any Driven Monday show on Sky Sports.

“I had the opportunity to be his teammate for a long period at Ferrari. I learned a lot from him, I think he is one of the best drivers in Formula 1.”

“It was a little strange to hear his decision to sign with Aston Martin.”

The striking thing about Alonso’s decision is that Aston Martin is currently unable to achieve its ambitions to get to the top of Formula 1. With the new generation of F1 cars, instead of a step forward, a step back was taken with currently a disappointing ninth place in the World Cup standings. Massa therefore does not understand Alonso’s motivation.

“To be honest, if you want to know my opinion, I think Aston Martin has more to gain than Fernando,” said Massa.

“The most important thing for Fernando is that he has a competitive car to show what he is capable of.”

“However, if things stay as they are now, Fernando can fight for tenth, eleventh, twelfth or thirteenth place. So I don’t think it’s very interesting for him.”
