Former Ferrari driver warns: “Mattia Binotto must make change quickly or he will pay the price”

Given the lack of reliability as well as strategic blunders, Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto is coming under increasing fire. Former Ferrari driver Felipe Massa warns Binotto that he must take action or he will pay the price himself.

According to Felipe Massa, Mattia Binotto deserves respect and recognition for what he has accomplished at Ferrari in recent years. He has ensured that Ferrari regain victories and can participate in the front, although there is also a lot of criticism because there is currently a large gap on Red Bull and Max Verstappen, due to a lack of reliability and strategic blunders.

“I know Mattia very well. I raced for him and worked with him for a very long time,” said Felipe Massa on ‘Any Driven Monday’ on ‘Sky Sports F1’.

“He was an engine engineer and then he became boss of the engine department. When he became technical director and team principal, I was no longer there. However, he is a very good engineer.”

“He is very professional. He understands the technical aspect. He is to be honest a very good guy. I also love him as a person.”

After the strategic mistakes this season, according to Massa, something has to change. He also warns that Binotto must ensure that change because otherwise he will have to fear for his own job.

“Ultimately, the results that are expected will not come,” said Massa. “We can’t put the blame on Mattia but in the end he is part of the whole.”

“They definitely need to calm down a bit when it comes to making the decisions. They need to understand why the strategic mistakes from the beginning of this season are still happening. That is something that has to change.”

“He has to bring about change quickly, otherwise he will pay the price.”
