Charles Leclerc: “We don’t know who is the fastest yet”

According to Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, it is still too difficult to know what the pecking order is this weekend after the two practice sessions on Friday, who is the fastest.

In the first practice session Ferrari was on top with both cars, Carlos Sainz set the fastest time with a small lead over Charles Leclerc. However, Max Verstappen was the fastest during the second practice session, Verstappen was even more than eight tenths faster than Leclerc, who set the second fastest time. However, Leclerc believes that it is still too difficult to know who is fastest this weekend.

“Overall, it wasn’t too bad a day,” Leclerc reflects on Friday’s practice sessions. “This first day after the summer holidays was very different, but the general feeling was good.”

“It is still too difficult to determine what the pecking order will be this weekend. All the teams ran a very different program.”

In view of the many grid penalties, that is very normal, at Ferrari they also drove with a different program due to the grid penalty that Leclerc receives.

“Let’s just say that our focus was not as strong as usual on our qualifying speed,” said Leclerc. “That would be somewhat useless. So yes, our focus was on race speed and getting back to the front as quickly as possible. Show us what it gives.”
