Tension trumps for world title in MX2: Jago Geerts has to relinquish World Cup leadership in the final round after the first series


Motocross rider Jago Geerts (Yamaha) has finished second in the first series of the Turkish Grand Prix in MX2. The decision on the world title will be made later in the day in the second and final series.

Geerts started the final game of the world championship in Afyonkarahisar with a two-point lead (710 against 708) over the Frenchman Tom Vialle (KTM). He won the first series for Geerts on Sunday and now has 733 points. Geerts is second with 732 points. The second series starts at 3.10 pm.

Jago Geerts (22) has been on the final podium of the MX2 World Championship three times, but never on the highest step. In the past two years, the Balenaar became vice world champion, in 2021 behind Frenchman Maxime Renaux and in 2020 behind Tom Vialle. In 2019 he already finished third behind the Spaniard Jorge Prado and the Dane Thomas Kjaer Olsen.
