Jean Todt: “Charles Leclerc is already a ‘great champion’ but he is still missing something”

According to former FIA boss Jean Todt, Charles Leclerc is already a ‘great champion’, despite the Monegask not yet being able to crown himself as F1 champion. At the same time, according to Todt, Leclerc is still missing something.

“Charles is already a great champion,” Todt told Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport. “He’s still missing something, I hope he gets it soon.”

However, Jean Todt does not say what Leclerc, who is managed by his son Nicolas Todt, is missing.

Todt also looks back on Ferrari’s season so far. The former FIA boss knows Ferrari very well as he co-led the Ferrari team when Michael Schumacher dominated the sport and won five world titles with Ferrari.

“Ferrari had the best car at some point this season,” said Todt. “Then they missed some opportunities, I’m thinking strategy, a safety car that came on the track at the wrong time, reliability issues.”

“There are several aspects that they have paid dearly. They have to learn from that and make sure they don’t happen again.”

“You should never leave anything behind. If you don’t leave anything on the table, then all the ingredients are there to become world champion.”

However, Ferrari has been waiting for a new world title since 2008, when it won the constructors’ championship for the last time.
