Mercedes: “We are willing to give Mick Schumacher a chance”

According to Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff, the brand with the star is willing to give Mick Schumacher a chance by appointing him as a reserve driver if he is interested.

After being pushed aside by the Haas F1 team, Mick Schumacher will wait a year on the sidelines in 2023. However, Schumacher does not want to put his F1 dream away after two seasons with the Haas F1 team because in 2024 he wants to be back on the F1 starting grid.

In the meantime, Schumacher may have an ‘opportunity’ as reserve driver with the Mercedes F1 team. In that way, Mick Schumacher would still have a figurative leg in the door in Formula 1. Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff would love for Mick to follow in the footsteps of his father Michael Schumacher who raced for Mercedes from 2010 to 2012.

“Mick is someone who has always been close to our hearts for the sake of Michael and even the entire Schumacher family,” Toto Wolff said in Abu Dhabi last weekend.

“We want to catch him and welcome him to the team should the opportunity arise. However, we have not put anything in writing yet, we have not come close to anything resembling a contract.”

“I think he fits into the team and now we also have to make sure it happens if he wants it, if his manager Sabine Kehm wants it. We will see what happens.”
