Who pays for the damage to your car in case of aquaplaning?

In the month of November, the number of road accidents increases. Logical too, because it rains more often and the low-lying sun often shines full in your face. What car insurance covers damage in a car accident due to bad weather?

What is aquaplaning?

If there is water on the road surface, because rainwater does not drain away fast enough, there is a risk of aquaplaning. The water fills the grooves in the tire until the pressure becomes too high and the tire loses contact with the road surface. Then you feel the car glide over the water. A scary situation, because steering and braking have little effect. Aquaplaning therefore often results in an accident. It is best to let go of the accelerator pedal until you feel the tires have grip again.

Other car accidents in the fall

Heavy rainfall also reduces your field of view, as does low-hanging fog. Motorists adjust their road behavior accordingly. They slow down, increase the distance to the vehicle in front and overtake less. During fog, people tend to adjust their speed and overtake little, at the same time they continue to drive too close to the vehicle in front. If it brakes hard, you’ll fall right behind it.

Aquaplaning: car insurance and bad weather

You probably already feel the storm coming: even if you as a driver cannot do anything about the accident – think of aquaplaning or dense fog – you remain responsible. If you cause damage to other cars as a result, this will be reimbursed by your WA car insurance. Every car owner has such insurance. The damage to your own car is only reimbursed if you are insured with WA+ full hull coverage. The well-known all-risk insurance.

What does the WA limited hull car insurance reimburse?

There is a limited hull between the compulsory third-party car insurance and the expensive all-risk insurance. This cover reimburses window damage and damage due to fire or theft. Damage caused by hail or storm is also compensated, but aquaplaning is unfortunately not included.

Curious which insurance reimburses what? Compare car insurance yourself and prevent financial misery in the winter months!
