Mick Schumacher was told in the hotel lobby that he could join the Haas F1 team

The story of the Haas F1 team and Mick Schumacher ends with a bitter aftertaste after the American team announced on the eve of the Abu Dhabi GP that their partnership would end at the end of this season.

Next season, Mick Schumacher will be replaced by his 35-year-old compatriot Nico Hulkenberg at the Haas F1 team. It was a mixed season for the young Schumacher with a number of retirements and crashes, but although he was quite competitive in midfield, that was not enough for a new contract with Haas. Schumacher’s lack of consistent performance drove Haas team principal Guenther Steiner into the arms of veteran hand Nico Hulkenberg.

If we are to believe the German Bild, there have never even been serious talks between Schumacher and Haas about an extension of his contract, contrary to what the American team itself has claimed so far. So everything indicates that the decision not to continue with Schumacher was taken some time earlier.

The German magazine also believes that Mick Schumacher found out in the hotel lobby in Abu Dhabi that the team did not want to continue with him. That was certainly not the most tactful way on Haas’ part to deal with a young rider who is in limbo.

The young Schumacher has meanwhile been mentioned as a possible reserve driver for the Mercedes F1 team.
