“The phenomenal Max Verstappen era has only just begun”

Nico Rosberg thinks we have only just begun an era in which Max Verstappen will rule. In the Any Given Monday podcast on Sky, he praises the young Dutchman.

Last month, Max Verstappen extended his world title after an impressive season after a victory in the Japanese GP. In a season of twenty-two races he managed to win fifteen.

He is an incredible driver, said Rosberg. I think it’s fair to say now that he’s going to be one of the greatest of all time, even if you look at the stats where he is right now.

He is a two-time world champion with more race wins than Fernando Alonso. He’s already one of the best of all time and he’s just getting started.

He will certainly prove that during the next decade. His riding skills are of a phenomenal level and it is nice to witness that.

However, it was not all roses in 2022 because Red Bull had problems with the reliability of the RB18. Ferrari and Charles Leclerc managed to take advantage of this, even to the extent that Verstappen already hinted after the Australian GP that his season was almost over.

But they quickly got their affairs in order at Red Bull and they also did not remain flawless at Ferrari, with the result that Verstappen was able to close the gap with Leclerc quickly.

“We also have to remember that it’s not like his car was miles faster than everyone else’s from the start this year,” noted the 2016 F1 world champion.

“The Ferrari was the fastest car at the start of the season and yet it took those incredible 15 wins and really destroyed the competition in that way.”

“If you look at the points, he scored 146 more than anyone else, it’s unreal. It’s one of the best seasons we’ve ever seen.”
