Will this be the car that dethrones the Volvo XC40?

In the segment of compact premium SUVs, the Volvo XC40 is lord and master in the Netherlands. This is partly due to the popularity of the electric version, the Volvo XC40 Electric. Slightly more compact, but just as premium, is this new Mini Aceman.

Last summer we introduced you to the Mini Concept Aceman, a pretty realistic-looking electric study model. But recently our spy photographers caught a barely camouflaged version of the car. This indicates that we can probably greet the Mini Aceman in the showroom at the end of 2023, the beginning of 2024. The Aceman will not be Mini’s first electric car. After all, there is already a Mini Electric. But with a range of just over 200 kilometers, that model doesn’t make a dent in a pack of butter. The Mini Aceman should change that.

What are the Mini Aceman’s competitors?

Among the all-electric compact SUVs from premium brands, the Volvo XC40 Electric has long held sway. Okay, the DS 3 E-Tense has been around for a while, but that brand has not yet established a foothold here. More recent are the Mercedes EQA and the brand new BMW iX1. Only those two are a bit longer than the Volvo XC40 Electric (length 4.42 m). And, not unimportantly, they are both also almost 10,000 euros more expensive. In short, there’s another lucrative gap in the market for Mini to jump into with the Aceman.

Range electric Mini Aceman

According to our sources, the Mini Aceman is 4.05 meters long and 1.59 meters high. That means it will be about 25 cm shorter than the Mini Countryman, but also slightly higher. The entry-level version of the Minia Aceman will probably have the same small battery pack (40 kWh) as the Mini Electric. In addition, there will certainly also be a version with a 50 kWh battery, which drives a 224 hp electric motor. And of course you want that.

According to rumors, the Mini Aceman with 50 kWh will have a range of about 400 kilometers. In theory, this brings it quite close to the Volvo XC40 Electric with 70 kWh (425 km). In addition, the Mini Aceman throws typical Mini charms into battle. That means playful round lines, a very recognizable interior and a million billion possibilities to tailor the car entirely to personal taste. But actually we would like the Mini Aceman to also be available with a battery pack larger than 50 kWh … To be continued!
